Mayor Karen Farbridge launches a blog

GUELPH, ON, May 2, 2008 – Mayor Farbridge has launched a blog, which she hopes will encourage more dialogue about civic affairs in the community. The blog can be found at http://mayorsblog.guelph.ca

In her blog, Mayor Farbridge will chronicle some of the day-to-day happenings in her role as Mayor.

"I think this blog has the potential to achieve a number of things," said Mayor Farbridge. "First, I hope to help de-mystify City Hall, and talk about things like committee discussions that don’t always get covered in the media.

"Second, as Mayor I have the privilege of attending many community events and functions, and I hope to give readers a sense of the terrific things going on in our city.

"Third, through the comments feature, I want to engage citizens in a positive dialogue about the issues and opportunities in our city."

A page called "About the Blog" explains that readers will be able to post comments, which will be moderated. It also explains that if residents would like their comment to become part of the public record - or if they expect a member of Council or staff to respond or address a specific issue - they must send an e-mail to mayor@guelph.ca, rather than simply posting a comment on the blog.

"The blog is a great way to boost the accessibility and transparency of the Mayor’s office, which is an ongoing priority of mine," said the Mayor.
