The City of Guelph’s Mission Statement states, “We will respect and protect our environment by preserving our natural, cultural and architectural heritage.” Section 3.5 Cultural Heritage Resources in the Official Plan expands and gives specific guidance to this statement.
Planning Services is the department primarily responsible for ensuring the conservation and protection of properties of cultural heritage value in the City. Through policy, the development review process, designation under the Ontario Heritage Act, property maintenance, and other initiatives, we are committed to promoting heritage conservation as part of the foundation for creating a distinctive and diverse city.
Planning also provides staff support to the City’s Municipal Heritage Committee Heritage Guelph.
