What you need to know

Kenzie and Nyx

Owning a cat or a dog is a big responsibility. When you buy or are given a dog there are a lot of things you need to do to look after it properly. You should ensure that it is healthy, well nourished, groomed, vaccinated, and properly exercised and trained. Of course you will also want to make sure your pet is happy and contented. A well cared for pet can be a great companion.

However it is important to remember that, as a cat or dog owner, you have responsibilities towards other members of the community as well as towards your pet.

We've included ownership tips, information on dealing with city wildlife, as well as city bylaws and licensing information in this section.

For issues related to animal control, please contact the City's Operations Department, 45 Municipal St., Guelph, Ontario, 519-837-5628, operations@guelph.ca.
