The Story of John McCrae
By John Peddie

Earl Grey expedition membersExpedition by Canoe

The expedition started at Norway House on Lake Winnipeg and took the party to the shores of Hudson's Bay.

The purpose of the expedition was to investigate the possibility for laying a rail line to the bay, thus giving the prairies a sea link nearer to them than eastern Canada. After reaching Hudson's Bay, the expedition members then boarded a steamer that took them around northern Quebec and Labrador to the Maritimes.

John McCrae, as well as being an author, was an accomplished story-teller. During the expedition his stories were a constant source of amusement and McCrae reputedly never told the same story twice during the entire two months.
