Guelph and Wellington County are getting ready to celebrate Canada’s Food Day at several local venues and restaurants on Saturday July 31st.
The national event, which since 2003 has brought Canadians together to celebrate local food, was created by local author and culinary activist Anita Stewart as a way to encourage the Canadian Beef industry during the BSE or Mad Cow crisis in 2003. Known formerly as The World’s Longest BBQ, the event has evolved into a full-on celebration of Canadian cuisine made from local ingredients, paying homage to our farmers, fishers and chefs.
On Saturday July 31st. residents and visitors are invited to enjoy local food on the menu for Canada’s Food Day at: • Guelph Farmer’s Market 7am-12 noon • Elora Raceway 5-8pm • Artisinale Café and Bistro- Guelph • Borealis Grille- Guelph • The Breadalbane Inn- Fergus
Or feast at home with your own menu created from local bounty-post your menu and recipes and catch up on news about Food Day all across Canada at www.flavoursofcanada.ca
Guelph and Wellington County are deeply rooted in their agricultural heritage and is globally known for leadership in agricultural research and best practices through its association with the University of Guelph. Canada’s Food Day connects citizens to our agricultural traditions in a meaningful way and creates a new theme for the August long weekend- Local food is the better choice.
